Skill Requirements:

The Materials Manager supports operations by providing a centralized distribution and control of supplies and equipment for the Center.

  • Knowledge of, and the ability to use the computerized inventory system (SIS)
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to maintain a computerized perpetual inventory system
  • Knowledge of inventory/stock policies and procedures
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work cohesively with others within a team environment

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains appropriate level of inventory (PAR levels) throughout the Center
  • Assures supplies and inventory are ordered expeditiously
  • Responsible for the bi-annual dollar value inventory of the center
  • Ensures timely purchase order and processing for, and acquisition of, all approved supplies and products, including non-capital and capital inventory items
  • Works collaboratively with Center Management to meet with vendors to obtain product and pricing information
  • Notifies Center Management and contacts vendors when problems arise and seeks solutions as needed
  • Monitors vendor performance on an ongoing basis and discusses any issues with Center Management
  • May assist Center Management with the negotiation of national buying group contracts as needed
  • Mutually ensures proper utilization of Center’s total purchasing budget utilizing related monthly inventory cost reports and justifies variances to Center Management
  • Performs final reviews of all invoices, identifying discrepancies to ensure vendor adherence to negotiated prices and established terms
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of back orders and shipping dates and seeks alternative vendors as appropriate
  • Records price changes onto system and notifies appropriate individuals as necessary
  • Ensures all equipment, center owned or rented, is checked by BioMed prior to issuing
  • Posts asset tags to the computer
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for the Center
  • Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed
  • Performs special projects, cost comparisons, research, etc. as needed

Job Requirements:

  • 1-2 years related materials management or purchasing experience, preferably in a health care setting
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills in order to facilitate effective interaction with a variety of health care professionals and personnel
  • Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize work efficiently to achieve the Surgery Center Goals
  • Requires manual dexterity, hearing to understand verbal instructions and near vision to distinguish supplies and instrumentation
  • Ability to flex work hours as needed and/or requested by management
