MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to visualize detailed internal structures. An MRI machine uses a powerful magnetic and radio waves to produce high-resolution images. MRI provides good contrast between the different soft tissues of the boy, which make it especially useful in imaging muscles, connective tissue and joints. In clinical practice, MRI is used to distinguish pathologic tissue from normal tissue. One advantage of an MRI scan is that it is harmless to the patient. It uses strong magnetic fields and non-ionizing radiation in the radio frequency range, unlike CT scans or traditional X-rays which both use ionizing radiation. MRI provides comparable resolution with far better contract resolution (the ability to distinguish the difference between two arbitrarily similar but not identical tissues. The scans can be done with our without dye. Imaging is particularly useful in instances of pain, swelling, or hemorrhaging associated with an injury, as these complications can interfere with the doctor's ability to perform a complete physical exam. There are some patients who may not quality for scanning if they have certain conditions or metal in their bodies. All of Proliance Surgeon's MRI suites are accredited by the American College of Radiology and staff are licensed by the state of Washington and credentialed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. They are specialty trained to work in outpatient orthopedic settings.
