Foot Surgery

There are many reasons people need foot surgery.  Trauma can cause sprains, strains and fractures, arthritis can cause pain, while other diseases and syndromes cause the foot bones to degenerate over time. Our surgeons specialize in the treatment and surgical intervention of the foot and ankle.  Foot pain can be debilitating and keep you from doing the activities you love.  Even walking can be a struggle.  Often a good pair of shoes or shoe inserts can help redistribute the pressure.  Combined with degenerative changes over time it might be necessary to seek medical advice.   Our surgeons are specialty trained in foot and ankle procedures.  Some of the most common foot conditions are:

Bunions
A Bunionectomy is the removal of bone and soft tissue in the big toe due to a bunion.  Bunions are a deformity of the big toe that causes the toe to become misaligned and pain and inflammation to the joint.  The surgery realigns the joint and removes the boney prominence to relieve pressure.  There are over 100 surgeries for bunions depending on the severity of the deformity.  Consultation with your surgeon will determine which procedure is right for you.

Morton’s Neuroma
This is also called plantar neuroma and occurs when a nerve gets pinched between two bones.  This causes pain between the second and third toes.  If there is no relief from conservative treatment, surgical removal of the neuroma can be done.

Plantar Fasciitis
The bottom surface of the foot has a broad ligament called plantar fascia.  It spans from the heel and fans out across the arch all the way to the toes.  The fascia becomes inflamed and pulls on the ligament, causing pain and discomfort.  This can typically be treated with non surgical intervention.

Hammertoes
Hammertoe is a condition in which the toes curl, producing abnormal pressure points.  The initial treatment consists of shoe modification.  Frequently, surgery is required to straighten the toes.
