Essential Functions:

  • Supports the whole center in many different ways
  • Must be friendly, professional, willing to work fast with competing priorities and under varying levels of supervision
  • A willingness to work equally between different departments and a variety of tasks is required
  • Under moderate supervision, this position is responsible for assisting with patient care duties, non-patient care duties and business office activities of Overlake Surgery Center

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Observes safety precautions and complies with all company health and safety rules and procedures
  • Adheres to and follows company policies and procedures
  • Is knowledgeable about and follows guidelines associated with Infection control & Prevention
  • Needlestick and Sharps Injury Prevention Respiratory Hygiene (Cough Etiquette)
  • Waste Disposal
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Hand Hygiene
  • Standard Precautions * Assists in room, bed and chair turnover as appropriate
  • Assists in maintaining the integrity of medical records
  • Assists in data entry as instructed
  • Escorts patients to their vehicles following discharge from our clinical areas.
  • Assists with stocking and receiving of supplies
  • Assists in maintaining cleanliness, order and organization in the facility
  • Receives and distributes supplies as instructed
  • Assist in the flow of cases as directed by Materials Manager, Charge RN’s and Director
  • Acts as courier to and from hospital departments as required
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory levels when advised
  • Orders and distributes linen as appropriate
  • Disposes of garbage, linen, sharps and biohazardous waste per policy
  • Accessible and available to staff
  • Participates in the Surgery Center’s Quality Improvement Program activities including identification of opportunities for cost reductions, safety improvements and efficiencies
  • Attends surgery center meetings and educational opportunities as requested

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills in order to facilitate effective interaction with patients, visitors, health-care professionals and personnel, consistently maintaining a professional demeanor in carrying out the duties of this position
  • Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize work efficiently to achieve the Surgery Center’s goals
  • Ability to use computer systems including SIS
  • Ability to use fax, phone and copiers as appropriate
  • Able to coordinate time away from work area to ensure consistent coverage
  • Display appropriate professional telephone etiquette, recognizing the far-reaching impact that telephone manners have on the reputation of our organization
  • Provide exemplary customer service, enthusiasm and a sense of pride in the organization that is visible to patients, visitors, co-workers, physicians and vendors
  • Adhere to Center’s employment policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook
