Qualifications and Skills:

  • Certified medical assistant
  • Experience in surgery and diagnostic scheduling
  • Experience in orthopedics is preferred
  • Must be comfortable working independently
  • Good organizational and customer service skills

Primary Responsibility:

Includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate surgery scheduling between patients, facilities and providers
  • Verify procedural and diagnosis codes with provider and or certified coder
  • Ensure surgery order is completed correctly and thoroughly before submitting to ASC or moving forward with scheduling
  • Obtain authorizations for surgeries, including inpatient, specialized outpatient, or Labor and Industry cases
  • Schedule imaging exams for existing patients
  • Schedule patients with a follow-up appointment to review results with provider
  • Obtain authorizations for imaging facilities outside of SOC
  • Obtain all diagnostic data and reports that pertain to and are related to the surgery order
  • Schedule pre-op and post-op appointments with patients
  • Obtain cardiac clearance if needed
  • Coordinate surgical availability with the ASC manager
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Be available during clinic hours to answer provider and patient questions regarding surgery either in person or over the phone
  • Coordinate with reps for tissue orders and follow transplant case protocols
  • Act as a liaison with referral sources to determine scheduling needs of new patients
  • Monitor physician schedule and make template changes as needed
  • Assist with patient paperwork, respond to duty status requests
  • Act as medical assistant if the provider is working in a remote location
  • Traveling- Ballard and Wallingford
  • Fill in for other schedulers and MA’s as needed
  • Special projects as assigned
