The Registered X­Ray Technician is responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation to patients for procedure purposes. Also fulfills the goals and contributes to the overall purpose and objectives of the surgery center.

Registration or Certificates:

Current Registration for Washington state
Successful completion of BLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS certification

Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of x­ray equipment

Proficiency or Productivity Standards:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Occasionally exposed to risk of blood­borne diseases or body fluids that might carry infection. Primarily works in climate­controlled area.

Physical Requirements:

Work is of Heavy physical demand (50 lbs & up)
Manual dexterity needed to operate computer and for intricate equipment set­up
Good visual and hearing acuity for discussions with staff, patients, vendors, etc., in person and/or by telephone

Primary Position Responsibilities:

Job Knowledge

Assists physician with imaging procedures
Operates mobile x­ray equipment
Maintains safe, orderly work area and practices using safety factors
Maintains up­to­date knowledge of field using continuing education and in­service
Participates in the performance improvement process and activities including the areas of safety, infection control, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, documentation, compliance with OSHA standards and risk management

Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment to provide a safe environment for patients, physicians and staff Ensures equipment is maintained per recommended requirements
Demonstrates startup procedures, calibration of equipment and troubleshooting
Regularly inspects equipment and lead aprons to ensure it is in proper working order

Maintains logbooks pertaining to radiation.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.

Demonstrates knowledge of radiation safety to provide a safe environment for patients, physicians and staff Ensures radiation­monitoring devices are used at all times
Monitors results of monitoring devices
Monitors efficacy of shielding devices

Recognizes when control limits have been exceeded and takes appropriate action Provides for staff education as needed

Responsibilities

Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
Demonstrates competent usage of proper body mechanics in all activities
Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor
Completes all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by facility policy Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for department and facility.

Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained

Performs all other duties as assigned by manager
Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation Strives to be professional, courteous, helpful and cooperative
