Surgery Center Summary

Southwest Seattle Ambulatory Surgery Center is a state-of-the-art facility specializing in outpatient surgical procedures that utilize the latest minimally invasive techniques and procedures. Our Surgery Center is equipped and staffed to provide you with quality care in a comfortable environment. We provide the same level of care you would expect during a stay in an in-patient hospital setting with the benefit of returning home the same day, allowing you to get back to life’s daily activities.

The Surgery Center is staffed with board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons and anesthesiologists, as well as registered nurses (RNs) trained in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) who have specific experience in providing surgical care in an outpatient setting.

Proudly serving Burien, West Seattle, White Center, Normandy Park, Des Moines, and the South Sound Region with specialized ambulatory surgical services since 2004.

Position Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse, under minimum supervision, provides safe, quality patient care in the operating room.  The Registered Nurse is accountable for the assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating of patient care in the operating room.  The Registered Nurse functions as a patient advocate utilizing the Patient’s Bill of Rights.  The Operating Room Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes in accordance with the mission of the Center.  He/she demonstrates professional growth and development by accepting responsibility and accountability for one’s nursing practice.

  • Problem solving skills
  • Skill in using a computer
  • Knowledge of Orthopedics, ENT, and AORN standards
  • Outpatient clinical organizational ability

The essential qualities necessary include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout their surgical experience.
  • Maintain a friendly, positive and caring attitude with all patients, physicians and staff.
  • Assist in patient education during all phases of their experience at the Center.
  • Assist in assuring that the proper supplies, instruments and equipment are available for the procedure.
  • Assist in assuring that equipment is functioning properly.
  • Monitor use of all supplies. Assist with inventory control by proper count of supplies/time used.
  • Document appropriately the care that is given to the patient.
  • Continue education to meet State requirements and keep current with health care.
  • Display professionalism at work and in the community as a representative of the Center.
  • Take an active role on committees within the department.
  • Identifies actual and potential risk to patients and others and takes action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety.
  • Performs charge nurse responsibilities as staffing demands and as requested.


  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current State licensure and CPR, ACLS and PALS accreditation
  • Two years of OR, Recovery Room, Intensive Care or Emergency Room experience is desired

  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Consistency and timeliness in attendance
