Overview

Dominic L. Van Nielen, MD, completed his undergraduate degree at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX. While there, he competed on the multiple national championship winning MSU cycling team. Following graduation, he spent a year racing in Europe before returning for his medical training at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and orthopedic surgery residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA. Following graduation, Dr. Van Nielen served as a general orthopedic surgeon in the U.S. Navy for five years, providing world class musculoskeletal care to active-duty service members and their dependents in Japan, Southern California, and Spain. He separated from the Navy in 2022 to complete his fellowship training in total joint replacement at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics in Baltimore, Maryland.

Outside of work, Dr. Van Nielen enjoys staying active, photography, and spending time with his family. He is happily married to his wife Brittany, a physical therapist, and together they have four children. They love spending time outdoors as a family and are avid hikers, skiers and lovers of the National Park System.
