Grace T. Um, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon who performs reconstructive and cosmetic procedures of the breasts and body. She specializes in breast reconstruction after mastectomy or lumpectomy, breast reduction, breast lifts, breast augmentation, breast implant removal, revision breast surgery, abdominoplasty, and body contouring. Dr. Um’s approach to patient care is centered around empathy and compassion, and she strives first and foremost to listen, to inform her patients of all their options, and decide on the best individualized care plan that meets their needs.

Along with her partners Dr. Morton and Dr. Bailey, Dr. Um is one of only a few experts in the greater Seattle area who specializes in breast reconstruction using a patient’s own tissues. She is an expert in flap reconstruction including DIEP, TUG/DUG, and latissimus flaps. She has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals in plastic surgery, and has presented her research at the national level.

Dr. Um has studied and trained at some of the most elite programs in the country. She completed her undergraduate education at Stanford University with a B.S. in Biology, and a minor in creative writing. She earned her medical degree from the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, and then completed a rigorous 6-year residency in Integrated Plastic Surgery at the University of Washington. She went on to additional training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to further specialize in microsurgical reconstruction.

Dr. Um lives in Seattle with her husband and children, who make her laugh every day. She enjoys reading, running, cooking/baking, hiking, traveling, and film photography.
