Plastic surgery has two categories: cosmetic and reconstructive. In cosmetic plastic surgery, areas of the body are reshaped and/or enhanced using both surgical and nonsurgical procedures to improve your appearance. Reconstructive surgery is used when parts of the body have been affected visually (burns, scars, etc.) or functionally (cleft palate). The causes of these are often congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, or trauma.
