Established in 1990 as Lakewood Orthopaedic Surgeons, Puget Sound Orthopedics serves the Puget Sound region with comprehensive orthopaedic care in musculoskeletal disorders. Our team comprises of 18 physicians with specialties ranging from joint replacement, shoulder care, spinal care, hand and upper extremity treatment, to sports medicine and podiatric care. They work with our certified physician’s assistants and a 100-member support staff to ensure a high level of contact and ongoing patient education. We work together with the centralized goal of delivering expert, individualized and compassionate care to every patient.

Position Summary

The certified nurse assistant helps the surgery center RNs with patient care and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.

  • Provide basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the ASC
  • Provide general care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously
  • Demonstrate performance reflecting what is expected of a Nursing Assistant.
  • Assist in admission, transfer and discharge of patient.
  • Perform basic care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate to the RN any observed changes in patient status
  • Maintain awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric and patient population
  • Demonstrate ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and physicians.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Respond to patient in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift.
  • Manage and operates equipment safely and correctly.

  • Be able to multi-task in a busy environment
  • Great interpersonal skills; demonstrating patience, composure and cooperation; working well with all patients, physicians and staff.
  • Understanding of and adherence to all safety, risk management and precautionary procedures, including the consistent respect for confidentiality (HIPAA)

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Graduate from an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program.
  • Basic Life Support certification required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification preferred
  • Minimum six months’ CNA experience in orthopedic healthcare preferred

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Maintain professionalism in stressful situations
  • Skill in using a computer
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic orthopedic anatomy
  • Must be able to organize work and establish procedures
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in the English language

  • Required to stand and walk continuously
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds; frequent lifting of up to 25 – 30 pounds
  • Frequent stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and occasional kneeling, crawling and squatting
  • High frequency of telephone usage and computer keyboard
  • Ability to see, hear, and speak continuously at a level to meet all essential functions of the job
  • Ability to prioritize and process with accuracy
