Overview

Position Summary

The medical assistant provides exceptional patient care under the direction and supervision of a physician and/or physician assistant. This position may require travel between our clinics located in Gig Harbor, Lakewood and Tacoma.

• Manages assigned physician’s daily schedule and patient flow
• Provides care to patients; includes rooming patients
• Obtaining patient’s complete medical history
• Casting, dressing changes, and staple removal under direction of the physician/PA
• Maintains compliance with current OSHA and hazardous waste management standards
• Assists assigned physician/PA in management of physician appointment
• Maintains surgery schedule
• Perform basic clerical duty for assigned physician
• Adheres to practice’s Safety, Risk Management, and Universal Precautions standards
• Cover for other team members as needed
• Help in x-ray department as needed
• Completes all FMLA, time loss and APF forms
• Reviews and signature stamps therapy progress notes
• Cleans and stocks exam rooms daily
• Manages assigned provider’s voicemail
• Return patient calls in a timely manner

• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic orthopedic anatomy
• Provides exceptional patient care and service
• Adapt well to change
• Be able to multi-task in a busy environment
• Maintain professionalism in stressful situations
• Skill in using a computer

• Completion of accredited medical assistant program required
• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum six months’ experience as a medical assistant preferred
• Previous experience in orthopedic healthcare preferred
• WA State Department of Health license/certification

• Required to stand and walk continuously
• Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds; frequent lifting of up to 25 – 30 pounds
• Frequent stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and occasional kneeling, crawling and squatting
• High frequency of telephone usage and computer keyboard
• Ability to see, hear, and speak continuously at a level to meet all essential functions of the job
• Ability to prioritize and process with accuracy
• May require travel to multiple clinic locations in Gig Harbor, Lakewood and Tacoma
