Position Summary

Edmonds Orthopedic Center/Spine Surgeons of Puget Sound, is looking for a Physician Assistant Certified to join our busy and growing 9 physician orthopedic practice.

The physician assistant is expected to provide both inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services under the supervision of a licensed physician. The P.A. will also have direct reporting responsibility to the Attending Physician of the respective patients for all evaluations and other duties performed.

The P.A.’s primary responsibility will be to act as first assistant for our orthopedic surgeons in the OR/ASC for most scheduled cases, add-ons, trauma and ER/on-call procedures. Surgical cases run the gamut from spine to hand to sports medicine/arthroscopy to total joints to foot and ankle procedures and trauma. The P.A. will also be expected to perform clinical duties including making hospital rounds, writing orders, providing consults when asked, responding to patient voicemail queries as appropriate, prescribing or refilling medications, performing injections or other minor procedures, or running a clinic in a provider’s absence.

The P.A.’s secondary responsibility is to participate in the general call pool to provide backup coverage to physicians when on ER call.


  • Vacation and sick leave (PTO) is accrued at a rate of 5.54 hours per pay period and is available after 90 days of employment (your probationary period).  As a new employee during the first year you will earn 144 hours of paid time off or three and a half weeks.  There is a PTO accrual increase at 5 and 10 years of service.
  • PAs are salaried, exempt employees. Vacation should be requested at least 6 weeks in advance and must be approved by the sponsoring physician and Executive Director according to the Proliance Surgeons paid leave policy.

Surgical Responsibilities:

  • Report 15 minutes prior to OR/ASC start time.
  • Complete pre- and post-operative orders.
  • Update H&P if appropriate.
  • Assist in templating patient radiographs pre-operatively if required.
  • Assist with patient positioning, skin prep, administration of local anesthetic,         preparation of equipment, etc.
  • Function as first assistant for the surgical case.
  • When appropriate, close surgical wound independent of physician, apply splints and dressings.
  • Help with turnover and OR flow.

Hospital Responsibilities:

  • Round on all patients before surgery or clinic on weekday mornings.
  • Complete orders and discharge summaries.
  • Perform and dictate consults on ER and inpatients as requested by the physician.

Clinic Responsibilities:

  • Provide injections when appropriate.
  • Respond to patient voicemail inquiries when available.
  • Prescribe pre- and post-operative medications when asked.
  • Manage clinic in the absence of sponsoring physician if required.

On-Call Responsibilities:

  • Participate in a shared call pool with the other P.A.s to provide backup coverage to physicians when on ER call.
  • Serve as primary contact for existing patient-related calls during ER and Office on-call weeks (physician fields ER/trauma calls).
  • Serve as First Assist for any after-hours or weekend surgical cases during call weeks.
  • A. will receive additional compensation for weeks spent on-call.

  • Great interpersonal skills, demonstrating patience, composure, professionalism and a sense of humor; the ability to work well with physicians and other team members.
  • Ability to exhibit cooperation, flexibility, and provide assistance when interfacing with physicians, management and staff.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Skill in organizing and reporting information that is accurate and complete. Attention to detail is important.
  • Consistency and timeliness in attendance.
  • Physician Assistant Degree
  • Certification by governing professional association/organization
  • Licensure or eligible for licensing as a Physician Assistant in the State of Washington
  • Ability for hospital credentialing and privileges
  • Intermediate knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer
  • Intermediate word processing skills required
  • High competency in verbal communication with patients
