Position Summary

The Rainier Orthopedic Institute, a division of Proliance Surgeons, is seeking to fill the opening of fulltime Revenue Cycle Coder CPC position. The role of the Revenue Cycle Coder is crucial to the revenue cycle team.  The team connects with our patients, their insurers or bill payers and our physicians.  Accuracy and efficiency of this team directly impacts our mission to be the leader in physician-managed healthcare services and to provide excellent surgical and clinical care for every patient, every day.  The Revenue Cycle Coder is critical to maintaining the funding for our services provided

The key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review of the patient’s records to determine what procedures were performed by the physician, surgeon, nurse of member of the healthcare team.
  • Accurately determine the appropriate Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code related to the procedures performed
  • Refer to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and capture the accurate diagnosis code for the patient’s condition
  • Work with patient service representatives (PSR’s) and medical records department to obtain missing information from charge slips
  • Collaborate with other members of the team to obtain all necessary details for each patient
  • Keep other team members informed of the kinds of data and information they need as a part of the patient’s records
  • Double check accuracy of codes so as to prevent any delays in submitting claims to payers
  • Interpret and troubleshoot documentation and coding
  • Complete duties and assist others as directed
  • Must follow all policies as introduced during new associate On-Boarding, updated real-time and outlined in Associate Handbook
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Clinic Manager

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or the equivalent; associates degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years medical coding experience required
  • CPC required prior to hire
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records, NextGen preferred
  • Keen attention to detail and drive for accuracy

  • Must continually demonstrate the safety procedures for the clinic and utilize universal precautions where appropriate.
  • Must continually demonstrate appropriate use of body mechanics techniques.
  • As outlined in the Employee Handbook, the employee must be reliable, polite, prompt, and confidential.  The employee must be capable of efficiently but warmly interacting with patients and other physicians.  Major responsibilities will be performed according to the direction of their supervisors.

  • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range
  • Use of telephone is required
  • Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard and phone
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
  • The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit
  • Some bending and stretching required
