Overview

Position Summary

The Charge RN in the ASC provides daily coordination of clinical care provided to patients by the clinical team and provides direct nursing care to patients. The Charge RN provides patient care and expert professional nursing care for the patient in at least one of the following peri-operative phases (OR Circulator or PACU) The Charge RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of the patient. The Charge RN works in collaboration with the ASC Director and Center leadership.

1. Manages day to day surgical schedule and works with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout their surgical experience.
2. Prepares and manages the bi-weekly staffing schedule for the center.
3. Maintains a friendly, positive and caring attitude with all patients, physicians and staff.
4. Assists in patient education during all phases of their experience at the Center.
5. Assists in assuring that the proper supplies, instruments and equipment are available for the procedure.
6. Assists in assuring that equipment is functioning properly.
7. Monitors use of all supplies. Assists with inventory control by proper count of supplies/time used.
8. Documents appropriately the care that is given to the patient.
9. Takes an active role on committees within the department.
10. Identifies actual and potential risk to patients and others and takes action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety.
11. Utilizes correct body mechanics in moving, transporting, and positioning patients, stretchers, and/or tables in order to prevent injury to patient and personnel
12. Follows relevant safety and sanitation guidelines
13. Participates in orientation and education of all ASC staff on an ongoing basis

• Excellent decision making skills
• Knowledge of ambulatory surgery desired.
• Outpatient clinical organizational ability
• Ability to remove oneself personally from given situations, remaining objective
• Ability to exhibit cooperation, flexibility, and provide assistance when interfacing with patients, physicians and staff
• Ability to multi-task
• Skill in organizing and reporting information that is accurate and complete
• Understanding of the need for and evidence of consistent respect for confidentiality
• Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all staff
• Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions
• Ability to communicate clearly
• Maintains education to meet State requirements and keep current with nursing standards.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all staff
• Ability to study, understand, adapt and respond effectively to a constantly changing environment.

Education:
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing;

Experience:
• Five years of OR, Recovery Room, Intensive Care or Emergency Room experience is required for position.
• Two to three years’ experience in a charge position is desired.

Certifications/Licenses:
• Current State licensure
• BLS, ACLS and certifications

Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours
