Overview

Position Summary

The medical scribe provides assistance to the physician; performing documentation under the direction and supervision of a physician and/or physician assistant.

This position is per diem. Working schedule is during normal business hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. May be required to work overtime, travel between clinics in Tacoma, Gig Harbor and Lakewood, and have work schedule adjusted to meet practice volume.

• Manages assigned physician’s daily schedule and patient flow
• Maintains compliance with current OSHA and infections waste management standards
• Facilitates communication between practice team and physicians to meet patient needs
• Adheres to practice’s Safety, Risk Management, and Universal Precautions standards
• Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures
• Dictation/facing/phone calls and clerical tasks
• Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician, via dictation of the last medical record
• Ensure letters are mailed or faxed on a daily basis to all physicians involved in a patient’s care
• Scribes are expected to assist with catching mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation
• Medical scribes collect, organize and catalog data for physician quality reporting systems

• Great interpersonal skills; demonstrating patience, composure and cooperation; working well with all patients, physicians and staff.
• Understanding of and adherence to all safety, risk management and precautionary procedures, including the consistent respect for confidentiality (HIPAA)

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum six months’ scribing experience preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic orthopedic anatomy
• Must be able to speak, read and write the English language
• Provides exceptional patient care
• Adapt well to change
• Be able to multi-task in a busy environment
• Maintain professionalism in stressful situations
• Must be skilled in performance of basic computer/keyboard functions
• Must be able to communicate effectively
• Must be able to organize work and establish priorities

• Required to stand and walk continuously
• Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds; frequent lifting of up to 25 – 30 pounds
• Frequent stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and occasional kneeling, crawling and squatting
• High frequency of telephone usage and computer keyboard
• Ability to see, hear, and speak continuously at a level to meet all essential functions of the job
• Ability to prioritize and process with accuracy
