Position Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician coordinates and collaborates the overall cleaning, decontamination, assembly and dispensing of surgical instruments, equipment and supplies needed for daily surgical procedures in surgery and related departments under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.

• Cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment
• Packaging and assembly of surgical trays
• Maintenance of sterilization equipment including testing and recording of sterilization test results
• In-depth knowledge of Sterilization Techniques
• Work cohesively with all staff and providers
• Adheres to practice’s Safety, Risk Management, and Universal Precautions standards

• Current BLS certification
• Be able to multitask in a busy environment
• Must be able to communicate effectively
• Must have knowledge of medical terminology
• Must be able to organize work and establish procedures
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language
• Must be skilled in performance of basic computer/keyboard functions

High school diploma or GED. Completion of medical terminology or anatomy and physiology course, and course work in a related field preferred.

One year of previous related experience in a facility setting within the last three years preferred.

Required to sit, stand and walk continuously. Work is of moderate demand with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Activities include stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and occasional kneeling, crawling, and squatting. High frequency of telephone usage and computer keyboarding is present. Have the ability to see, hear, and speak continuously at a level to meet all functions of the job. Work is of high attention and mental demands including the ability to prioritize and process with accuracy.

This position is full time at the Puget Sound Surgery Center. You may be required to work overtime, or have work schedule adjusted to meet work assignment deadlines or meet the needs of the employer.
