Surgical Services Assistant

Overview

Position Summary

The surgical services assistant will work with the Puget Sound Surgery Center staff to prepare for cases in our ambulatory surgery center. The surgical services assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly environment in the surgery center, providing high-quality patient care and assisting the nursing staff. Depending on the applicant’s preferences, this position can be made a full-time or part-time position. The surgical services assistant will work under direction of the charge nurse.

• Stock unit
• Assist in room turn over
• Pick cases for the next day and ensure carts are up to date for rooms.
• Data entry as directed
• Patient transport

• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic orthopedic anatomy
• Adapt well to change
• Great interpersonal skills; demonstrating patience, composure and cooperation; working well with all patients, physicians and staff
• Maintain professionalism in stressful situations
• Understanding of and adherence to all safety, risk management and precautionary procedures, including the consistent respect for confidentiality (HIPAA)

Education/Experience
• Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and BLS certification.
• Two years of ambulatory care, medical assistant, EMT or Emergency Room experience is desired for position.

• Ability to multi-task
• Skill in organizing and reporting information that is accurate and complete
• Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations

• Required to stand and walk continuously
• Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds; frequent lifting of up to 25 – 30 pounds

• High frequency of telephone usage and computer keyboard
• Ability to see, hear, and speak continuously at a level to meet all essential functions of the job
• Ability to prioritize and process with accuracy
