Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional who assists with the surgical care of patients, collaborating with and under the supervision of the physician and circulating nurse during operative procedures to facilitate a safe and effective surgical outcome.  Surgical Technologists are responsible for the handling and care of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for surgical procedures.  They are vigilant in applying the principles of asepsis and sterile technique to ensure quality patient care.

  • Identifies, selects and coordinates equipment, instruments and supplies required for surgery
  • Anticipates needs of surgeons and demonstrates correct use of surgical instrumentation and equipment
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique
  • Assists with sterile processing duties when needed

The essential qualities necessary include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates cooperation, collaboration and consideration of other health team members
  • Must be organized, flexible and versatile with the ability to function effectively in stressful situations
  • Assumes responsibility for own actions and displays initiative and enthusiasm
  • Understanding of and adherence to all safety, risk management and precautionary procedures, including the consistent respect for confidentiality (HIPAA)
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program
  • Current State registration and BLS certification
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist preferred
  • New graduates welcome to apply

  • Constant walking
  • Frequent standing exerts 10-25 lbs of force. 
  • Manual dexterity and well-coordinated to move about freely
  • Occasionally exerts up to 75 lbs of force, lifting and reaching overhead and below
