Overview

Position Summary

Proliance Surgery Center at Valley, a division of Proliance Surgeons, is looking for a dynamic Surgical Technologist to join our team! The Surgical Technologist is an allied health professional who assists with the surgical care of patients, collaborating with and under the supervision of the physician and circulating nurse during operative procedures to facilitate a safe and effective surgical outcome. Surgical Technologists are responsible for the handling and care of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for surgical procedures. They are vigilant in applying the principles of asepsis and sterile technique to ensure quality patient care.

Hours are Monday through Friday, no nights, no on-call, and no weekends!

Skills & Responsibilities

Preoperative Duties

  • Identifies, selects and coordinates equipment, instruments and supplies required for each procedure.
  • Assist in preparation of room with damp dusting, room turnover, cleaning and restocking.
  • Performs surgical hand scrub, gowns and gloves according to procedure.
  • Sets up sterile field with sterile supplies, instrument trays, labeled medications and solutions needed for the procedure.
  • Assists team members with gowning and gloving, draping of the surgical field and positioning of surgical equipment and cords.
  • Performs surgical count with the circulator.
  • Actively participates in the surgical “Time Out.”

Intraoperative Duties

  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments, ligatures, supplies, sponges and irrigation for usage during the procedure.
  • Observes for breaks in sterile technique and calls attention to such.
  • Open, passes and receives items to and from the sterile field correctly, to include implants and specimens.
  • Demonstrates correct use of surgical instruments and equipment and assures functionality.
  • Performs additional counts as necessary.
  • Keeps surgical field clean and organized.
  • Prepares and assists with surgical dressing application.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for delivery to the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Breaks down sterile field and disposes gown and gloves accurately.

Additional Duties

  • Will perform sterile processing duties on a rotating basis: Cleans, inspects, lubricates, wraps and sterilizes instruments appropriately. Operates sterilization equipment safely and accurately.
  • Wears PPE per policy.
  • Identifies supplies needing to be ordered.
  • Updates physician preference cards as needed.
  • Assists and understands safe patient positioning.
  • Pick and prepare for next day’s cases.
  • Keeps workrooms and operating rooms neat and clean.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-services.
  • Implement and participates in all ASC policies and Performance Improvement Projects.
  • Assists in training and instruction of students and new personnel.
  • Works with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the surgical patient throughout their surgical experience.
  • Maintains certification through continuing education requirements and be active in professional development and competencies.
  • Maintains and grows in knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical procedures and instrumentation and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Registration with the Washington State Department of Health.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.

Work Conditions

Constant walking. Frequent standing, exerts 10-25 lbs of force. Occasionally exerts up to 75 lbs of force, stooping, crouching, kneeling, overhead and below level reaching, lifting, and carrying 10-15 lbs. Rarely lifts a maximum of 50 lbs. Must be well coordinated and able to move about freely. Dexterity necessary. Visual and audio acuity as needed for job performance.
